So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and
be sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Life Question: Are you a Lert?
Now when I saw this saying in its original form, "Be Alert! The World Needs More Lerts!" I couldn't help but laugh so hard when my sister showed it to me that I
nearly lost my breath! Then.....a realization came to me.....God Needs More Lerts
In His Kingdom!
Before getting to the nitty gritty about what being a Lert in God's Kingdom means,
we must first understand what "Be Alert!" means. Here is the following definition and
the synonyms:
Alert--quick to notice any potentially dangerous or difficult circumstances.
Synonyms--vigilance, watchfulness, attentiveness
Now I have as a pedestrian seen many examples of people in their cars who should
Be Alert! to their surroundings, but sadly, are instead on their cell phones, putting on
their make-up, eating and doing other distracting behaviors.....while driving! Pedestrians too, when on their iPhones and cell phones are in the middle of the crosswalks standing there and not moving and you're trying to get somewhere!
That's what happens when people are NOT ALERT!
So then.....what does being spiritually alert in God mean?? Let's look:
*Things(people) are only visible when you bring them into the light. Ephesians
5:14
*But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and
drunkenness and cares of this life, and that come upon you suddenly like a
trap. Luke 21:34
*Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set
your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of
Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:13
*Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:2
*And to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true
righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24
*Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on
the breastplate of righteousness, Ephesians 6:14
*Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent.
If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at
what hour I will come against you. Revelation 3:3
These bible references before you are just some the resources and teachings
Jesus Christ gives us for our lives in order that we may Be Alert! to the obstacles
that life situations put in our way, obstacles that people will put in our way,
that we ourselves put in our way.Â
I know what it is to be spiritually awake. Believe me, they are vastly differentÂ
from one another. To be spiritually awakeÂ
to Jesus Christ's way for us we MUST do the following:
*Shod our feet with the Gospel.
*Place in our one hand the Sword of the Spirit.
*Place in our other hand the Shield of Faith.
*Gird our waists with the Belt of Truth.
*Cover ourselves with the Breastplate of Righteousness.
*Send a clear message to all we are children of God by donning the
Helmet of Salvation(which only can be given through God's grace).
If you are not yet alert, Jesus Christ help you achieve that! The first thing
you must do for him to do that for you, is, if your mind is  polluted with worldlyÂ
allow you to be polluted with the alertness that this world offers and ask Jesus toÂ
show you biblical references that help you gain alertness through his teachings.
Be His Lert! God Needs More Lerts!
Stay well and blessed!
Blessings,
Liz Ciccone
