But I say to the unmarried and the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am. 1 Corinthians 7:8
"It's a couples world." So I've been told by some friends of mine who are married and are more than intent on fixing me up with "someone who is perfect for you." The world sees the singularity of men and women in an almost pariah status. Having been on my own for almost ten years, I am here to say.....I LOVE IT!
I bring this up because people seem to be so shocked about some of the adventures I've done on my own, like going to a movie, concert, out to dinner at a fancy restaurant or the biggie.....New Year's Eve! Many of my friends have said that I am brave to do such things on my own. "What's brave about it?" I ask them. "Well, it would be uncomfortable for me." they reply. Hey, it wasn't always easy for me to live alone at first, I had to change my perspective about what being single means.
Being single in a 'couples world' is about being secure in who you are and not being with someone just because that's what others expect. It's about growing into the person God wants you to be so you can do the work uninterrupted by the world that He has prepared in advance for you to do, it's about establishing an identity for yourself, it's about the discovery of who you are apart from someone else.
Life is a journey, and we are not alone in it. There's a big difference between being alone and being lonely. With God, you are NEVER alone. Blessings, Liz Ciccone
